Protest

While in Munich, we walked to Marienplatz to see the city hall and go to the toy museum. On the way there, we walked into a protest. I didn't figure out what the protest was for but there were lots of people and lots of police there. They must have been anticipating some civil unrest because some had riot gear with them. We were at the end of it because it moved on to a different place in a parade fashion while we tried to find the toy museum entrance.

Judging from the other posts, I figure you were at Munich the last weekend. There was this annual "security conference" (Merkel and Putin attended for example) taking place which always attracts lots of protesters from many different groups. Since this in turn usually attracts some (really only a few) militants throwing stones and the like, the bavarian police is trying to be as prepared for anything as possible.
I have no idea anyway, why on earth they have this conference taking place right in the very center of munich. But well...

We were there the 9-13th. We thought it might have something to do with the Carnival which also was starting when we were there but the security conference explains a lot.
