Harrods

Harrods is a London tradition so of course I had to go there. John, being the wonderful boyfriend that he is, humored me. We were intending to spend a couple hours there at the most and then go to an art museum. However, I saw that they had an old map collection/area so we went in. While we were debating whether or not we should ask to see any maps from Germany/Prussia from the time my family emigrated from Germany, one of the salespeople approached us. He asked if we wanted to see anything so we did. We spent a couple hours looking at old maps and trying to find the town my father's family lived in. We didn't find it but we saw some pretty impressive maps. I felt a little bad that we didn't buy one but they were expensive (but had authenticity papers) and I wasn't sure what my dad would want.

After looking at the maps and pet section, we had lunch at the tapas place. We then bought chocolates and candy to take to my coworkers. That was about all I could afford there!

London Eye

The Lonely Planet Guidebook let us astray a bit while we were in London. The main one was that it said the London Eye wasn't open on the weekends in off season. However, we saw it moving so we thought we'd check it out. After figuring out which line to be in, we went up to the lady and asked if we could get tickets. It was about 3:00 PM. She said the next ride was at 4:00 and we could join the queue at 3:30.

Optimistic, we headed outside to see where the queue was. Then, our hopes dashed. It was long. Very long. Since we had already purchased our tickets, we grabbed some sandwiches for our late lunch and finished them in time to join the wait. I think we got onto the London Eye about 4:30 or 5:00. It wasn't too bad of a wait and it was a good way to see the city skyline.

Outside the Abby

These pictures were taken from the "outside" of the Abby. That is, there was a green type area where the buildings were open to the weather and we were allowed to take pictures. It gives an idea of how truly massive this Abby is.

The Abby

While in London, we got to see a few sites even though it was a "short weekend." That means it was a typical Friday to Sunday, not a long weekend. One of the sites that we got to see was Westminster Abby. It was truly amazing and more like an homage to the royal (or important) deceased than a church at times, though. As we were leaving, a boys' choir was coming into one of the chapels to sing.

We have definately been bitten by the travel bug. Last weekend, we went to London to celebrate our anniversary. It was a wonderful weekend and I'll be posting lots more pictures (of course).
